ESSENTIALITY OVERVIEW

Pursuant to Section 1.8 of the ATSC Patent Portfolio License, "ATSC Standard" shall mean the standard as defined in the following documents, including any and all amendments and corrigenda, except as limited by the definition of ATSC Essential Patent:

    • Doc. A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 1 - Digital Television System;

 

    • A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 2 - RF/Transmission System Characteristics;

 

    • A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 3 - Service Multiplex and Transport Subsystem Characteristics;

 

    • A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 4 - MPEG-2 Video System Characteristics;

 

    • A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 5 - AC-3 Audio System Characteristics;

 

    • A/53 ATSC Digital Television Standard Part 6 - Enhanced AC-3 Audio System Characteristics;

 

    • Doc. A/54A: Recommended Practice: Guide to the Use of the ATSC Digital Television Standard, including Corrigendum No. 1;

 

    • Doc. A/65C: ATSC Standard: Program and System Information Protocol for Terrestrial Broadcast and Cable (Revision C) with Amendment No. 1;

 

    • Doc. A/69: ATSC Recommended Practice: Program and System Information Protocol Implementation Guidelines for Broadcasters;

 

    • Doc. A/74: ATSC Recommended Practice: Receiver Performance Guidelines; and

 

    • Doc. A/112: ATSC Recommended Practice: E-VSB Implementation Guidelines.

 

Excluded from the definition of ATSC Standard are sections of the foregoing enumerated ATSC documents which pertain to cable but not over-the-air, RF terrestrial broadcast digital television (e.g., Doc. A/53 Digital Television Standard Part 2 - RF/Transmission System Characteristics, Chapter 7; A/54A Recommended Practice: Guide to the Use of the ATSC Digital Television Standard, including Corrigendum No. 1, Secs. 8.6 and 9.2.14; Doc. A/65C ATSC Standard: Program and System Information Protocol for Terrestrial Broadcast and Cable (Revision C) with Amendment No. 1, Secs. 1.1.2, 5.2, 6.3.2, 7.2, Annex G; and Doc. A/69 ATSC Recommended Practice: Program and System Information Protocol Implementation Guidelines for Broadcasters, Annex C).
