Hélène Jay is Vice President Global Licensing Programs at Via Licensing Alliance (Via), a global leader in collaborative licensing. A seasoned intellectual property executive and attorney, she brings over 20 years of experience working with both licensees and licensors to develop joint licensing programs across audio and speech compression, broadcast, automotive, and wireless technologies.

At Via—an independently managed company backed by industry leaders with more than 25 years of IP licensing expertise—Ms. Jay oversees all licensing programs of Via covering Audio, Video, Power, Wireless technologies, broadcasts standards and biotech that cumulatively cover patents owned by 100 Licensors and which have offered licenses to 2900 Licensees.

Ms Jay has notably played a central role growing the MPEG-4 Audio licensing program (AAC), which is one of the most widely adopted patent pools in the industry. This program provides access to more than 9,000 patents and serves 900 licensees. Ms. Jay was pivotal negotiating major licensing agreements with some of the world’s top device manufacturers, including Oppo, Apple, Samsung, TCL, and Xiaomi. She also works closely with major contributors to Via’s programs, such as AT&T, Dolby, Fraunhofer, Microsoft, NTT, Orange, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, and Sony.

Prior to joining Via, Ms. Jay served as Vice President of Licensing at VoiceAge in Montréal. She began her career as Legal Counsel at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

Ms. Jay holds a Master’s degree in International Business Law from Université Paris X Nanterre, with academic studies also completed in Oxford and Paris.
