Via Expands LTE Patent Pool License Coverage to Include LTE-Advanced Pro
Advanced technology for many mobile applications added to license with no increase in royalties
SAN FRANCISCO, June 20, 2018 — Via Licensing Corporation today announced the expansion of its groundbreaking LTE (Long-Term Evolution) patent pool to include the LTE-Advanced Pro standard technologies with no change in the program’s royalty rate. By enhancing its offering to include LTE-Advanced Pro, Via is providing cost-effective, efficient and transparent access to more LTE standard essential patents, furthering its mission to enhance innovation.
LTE-Advanced Pro (LTE-A Pro) is rolling out globally, presenting a significant opportunity for advancement across the wireless ecosystem through new technologies. Through advanced technologies such as Licensed Assisted Access and Dual Connectivity, the speed of connectivity across technological devices will increase substantially. LTE-Advanced Pro will continue to deliver new innovations and increased benefits over an extended period of time to a rapidly growing market of LTE wireless products and services, allowing it to grow even faster.
“Via’s LTE Program is once again expanding access to the latest technologies while maintaining consistent royalty rates, terms and conditions,” said Via President Joe Siino. “This enhancement to Via's LTE Patent Pool offering allows manufacturers and service providers to bring products to market in a more cost-effective and predictable manner.”
Companies offering their LTE-essential patents through Via’s licensing program include AT&T, China Mobile, Conversant Wireless, Deutsche Telekom, Dolby, Google, HP, KDDI, Innovative Sonic, Lenovo (including Motorola Mobility subsidiary), MediaTek, NTT DoCoMo, Siemens, SK Telecom, Technology in Ariscale, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Verizon. By making essential patents available through a patent pool, Via’s licensing program significantly reduces the risk of litigation for organizations that are building products or services based on the LTE standard.
Participation in Via’s LTE Patent Pool is open to all owners of essential LTE patents. Any entity that believes it holds a patent that could be licensed through Via’s LTE program is encouraged to submit the patent to Via for evaluation by an independent patent evaluator. Parties manufacturing or selling LTE devices or components and other implementers of the LTE standard should visit www.via-la.com/licensing/lte/index.html or contact Via at info@via-la.com to request an LTE Patent License Agreement or to obtain more information about the LTE program.
