MPEG LA Introduces One-Stop License for Qi Wireless Power

Initial Patent Owners Include ConvenientPower, GE, Philips, and Robert Bosch

DENVER, CO, US – 14 January 2020 – MPEG LA, LLC today announced availability of the Qi Wireless Power Patent Portfolio License providing one-stop access to the standard for wireless charging and power transfer known as Qi* developed by the Wireless Power Consortium.

“Just as Qi makes mobile products more mobile by removing wires from wireless devices, MPEG LA is pleased to make Qi technology readily available to the worldwide market on the same terms under an efficient and affordable license,” said MPEG LA President and CEO Larry Horn.

The initial patent owners to MPEG LA’s Qi Wireless Power Patent Portfolio License are ConvenientPower HK Limited, GE Hybrid Technologies, LLC, Koninklijke Philips N.V., and Robert Bosch GmbH.

“We commend these companies for their foresight, initiative and cooperation in making possible a joint license under their foundational patents for the benefit of the Qi marketplace,” said Bill Geary, MPEG LA Vice President, Business Development, “and we welcome other owners of technology covered by the Qi standard to join them in offering one-stop access through MPEG LA’s Qi License.”
