Please note that the rate and cap for this program will increase for licensees joining after September 30, 2025. Licensees who join the pool prior to this date will enjoy the most favorable rate and cap, along with all current licensees within the pool. Licensees who join as an HEVC-only or VVC-only licensee may also convert at any point in the future to a combined HEVC/VVC license and will still enjoy this favorable rate and cap. More details on the change are provided on this page below.

 

HEVC/VVC Products Sold to End Users by a Licensee with (a) ownership/control of the brand name or (b) if the HEVC/VVC Product bears no brand name, with discretion over decision to Sell

Current HEVC/VVC Royalty Rate:

New Discounted HEVC/VVC Royalty Rate (Effective January 1, 2026):

For units 100,001 and more $ 0.24 ea. for sales in R1**

$0.20 ea. for sales in R2**

Maximum annual royalty payable by an Enterprise (Legal Entity and Affiliates): $25,000,000

 

Royalty Rate for Licensees who join after September 30, 2025:

Note: The above rates apply for the renewal term beginning on January 1, 2026

 

  • Coverage is provided, and royalties are payable, for HEVC and VVC products from May 1, 2013, forward.
  • Royalty paid for HEVC and VVC Licensed Product sublicense (referred to above) includes right to use encoders/decoders for HEVC and VVC content

* available to one Legal Entity in an affiliated group

** R1 is defined as Canada, the United States and U.S. territories, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean; R2 is defined as countries other than those subject to in R1.
